  • Samsung Is Focusing on the S8 After Galaxy Note 7 Disaster

Posted on October 27th, 2016 admin No comments

Samsung is now starting to research and develop its next flagship phone S8 despite the fact that the Korean electronic giant still has no idea what caused some of its Galaxy Note 7 phone batteries to explode. According to Lee Jae-yong, vice chairman and board member at Samsung, who’s also the apparent heir to the company, next year’s Galaxy S8 will come with a “slick design and an improved camera.” It’ll also have better artificial intelligence, Lee said. That all sounds about right for a new phone.

Samsung acquired the creators of Siri, Viv Labs, earlier this year, so it would make sense for the company to improve its voice assistant. Lee didn’t confirm to the public whether it would be including Viv’s technology in the S8. Given that both Apple and Google market their assistants as a reason to buy their phones, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Samsung at least tried to fit AI into its larger pitch. But are a better camera, AI, and design enough to win back trust?

Samsung’s Note 7 recall cost the company more than $5 billion, and it’s unclear whether the large amount of negative press will have a lasting effect on sales.

Samsung not only issued a recall, but also had to send customers fireproof return boxes. That’s not a good look. The FAA banned the devices on flights and continues to announce that they’re not allowed during the boarding process. It’s a federal crime to bring one aboard. Samsung has serious image reworking to do, so let’s hope the company debuts something really impressive in 2017.

  • Samsung Ends Production and Halts Sales of Note 7 After Global Recall and New Fire

Posted on October 12th, 2016 admin No comments

The South Korea’s largest company, Samsung Electronics Co. has announced that it is ending production of its problematic Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, taking the drastic step of killing off Note 7.

Debuted on August 19, 2016, Note 7 was reported to catch fire automatically. Thus at the start of last month, Samsung had recalled the fire-prone device after early models exploded and the latest move comes after customers reported that replacement phones were also catching fire. Samsung will be without its highest-end smartphone that was supposed to compete against Apple Inc.’s iPhones and other premium devices during the holiday shopping season.

Samsung originally blamed one battery supplier for the problems and switched to an alternative company, but that did not end the problems.

“Samsung needs to act swiftly and move on to protect their brand image,” said Mark Newman, an analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein in Hong Kong.

Samsung Electronics shares fell 8 percent in Seoul Tuesday, wiping out about $17 billion of market value, before the Note 7 termination was announced. The stock dropped further in London trading after the news, sliding as much as 9.9 percent.

The company has not said how many new or replacement phones will be affected by the latest announcement. Analysts estimated the original recall would cost between $1 billion and $2 billion, but that figure will now certainly rise. Chung Chang Won, an analyst at Nomura Holdings Inc., estimated in a research note before the company’s announcement the worst-case scenario of Samsung terminating the Note 7 would cost the company about $5 billion in operating profit through 2017.

  • 5 Reasons Why You should Choose iPhone over Android

Posted on October 10th, 2016 admin No comments

Even though more and more high-end Android phones appear, like Samsung, LG,Huawei. There are still some key reasons to choose the iPhone over Android if you want to buy a new mobile phone. Here’s why you should pick the iPhone over Android phones.

    1. Guaranteed Software Updates

iOS is the only platform that keeps updating with new features and bug fixes. In fact, Apple supports old iPhones long after most people stop using them. For example, the latest iOS 10 even works on the iPhone 5, which launched four years ago.
Android phones rarely get that kind of support. Many manufacturers stop issuing Android updates after a year or so, if you’re lucky. That means you’re likely to miss the latest and greatest features that come to Android each year.

    2. Get the Best Apps First

Both iPhone and Android have a robust selection of apps, but iPhone still tends to get the best apps first. Developers tend to make more money from the iPhone, which is why it often gets preference over Android. For example, Nintendo’s first Mario game, “Super Mario Run,” will be an iPhone exclusive when it launches later this year.

    3. No “crapware” from Your Wireless Carrier

Carriers have a lot of control over what appears on Android phones, and they use that leverage to stuff the devices full of apps and services you don’t need. Even worse, those apps are taking up your storage space on phone and often impossible to delete from your device.
The iPhone never comes with carrier crapware. The software is exactly the same no matter which carrier you buy your iPhone from.

    4. Run Smoothly for Years

Even you have been using your iPhone for few years, you will find that it still runs very smoothly and you can easily access to all functions. But Android phones will run slowly after using several months. When you want to access some functions, like camera, you have to take a few more minutes, which will waste your time a lot.

    5. The Best Apple Support

Apple has a vast network for customer support. Just walk into an Apple Store and someone will help you with your issues. It gets messy with Android phones though. In most cases, you have to deal with your wireless carrier if you have a problem with your phone, not the manufacturer, which means you’re working with people who aren’t as well-versed in how your device works.
