• Sony Added Boost Mode to the PS4 Pro to Improve Performance in Old Games

Posted on February 6th, 2017 admin No comments

Sony is currently pushing a new firmware update to its PlayStation 4 console. It’s a beta preview of the update, version 4.50. And it added a new feature to the PS4 Pro console which the early owners of the console would find pretty useful. Many old PS4 titles run better on the new hardware which requires no further optimization by developers. Once you’ve install the update, there would be a “Boost Mode” option added to the settings menu. And only the more powerful Pro models will have this new option, the regular PS4 won’t.

A company spokesperson told The Verge that when the Boost Mode is activated, it “lets PS4 Pro run at a higher GPU and CPU clock speed in order to improve gameplay on some PS4 games that were released before the launch of PS4 Pro,” He also claimed “Games that have a variable frame rate may benefit from a higher frame rate, and load times may be shorter in some games too.”

Sony is in no way saying that it would work well for all titles, but Boost Mode still shows Sony’s sincere attempt to improve the user experience of the already powerful console. Other than 4K and HDR, now Sony also throws in this feature which helps you improve the experience when playing your old games. Sony also advices that Boost Mode might cause unexpected behavior in some cases with the PS4 Pro running at full speed. Turning off the option should resolve the problem.

In addition to the Boost Mode, Sony will also add the support for external hard drives to all PS4 models and some redesigned menus. And the new update also lets users to watch 3D Blu-rays in PSVR.

  • LG G6 Won’t Be Featuring Snapdragon 835 Because of Samsung

Posted on February 4th, 2017 admin No comments

LG’s upcoming flagship G6 won’t be featuring Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset due to the fact that Samsung bought out all the chips that there won’t be any left for the other companies, according to a recent report.

Ben Sin, a consumer tech writer for Forbes, recently criticized HTC for featuring Snapdragon 821 instead of the more powerful Snapdragon 835 in the year of 2017. But after digging deeper into that, he realized there’s a good reason for that.

    style=”display:inline-block;width:728px;height:90px”
    data-ad-client=”ca-pub-8877674303109942″
    data-ad-slot=”4123226464″>

“I’ve spoken to some industry insiders in Asia today and I must apologize to HTC, because it would appear that the 835 is out of their reach until after April, so they couldn’t have used the 835 without drastically delaying the phone,” Sin writes.

“In fact, that’s the case with almost all phones, including LG’s flagship. Yup, I have confirmed with an industry insider that the LG G6 will run on Snapdragon 821 instead of the 835 that everyone’s expecting.”

The reason why the G6 will be missing out on the Snapdragon 835 is that Samsung has first dibs on it because it’s basically the biggest customer for Qualcomm and the order from the Korean Company is so big that there won’t be enough for other vendors.

Big companies like LG, Sony and HTC won’t be able to have access to the Snapdragon 835 until after the official debut of the Galaxy S8 in the coming months.

This won’t be much of an issue for LG’s fans actually as LG’s done things like this before. The LG chose the Snapdragon 808 instead of the 810, but that’s mainly because of the concern of overheating rather than stock out.

From the latest leak we can see that the G6 would be featuring a USB-C port, headphone jack, a dual-camera arrangement and a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. And noticeably the device’s 5.7-inch display features virtually no bezel. All in all, the G6 is still a flagship worth expecting.

  • LG’s Flagship G6 Set to be Launched on Feb, 26

Posted on January 18th, 2017 admin No comments

LG has sent out invites for an event set on February 26. The invite came with hints that there would be a device that features a display with a wider viewing area. LG confirmed before that it’s going to introduce a device with a QHD+ display and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The device would be featuring a 5.7-inch display with a sharper resolution of 2880*1440, which makes for 564 pixels-per-inch.

“QHD+ is expected to maximize users’ experience and value by providing ultra-high definition, differentiating it from all other mobile display panels,” said Kim Byeong-koo, senior vice president and head of the mobile development at LG Display.

The standard QHD resolution is 2560*1440, but the display on G6 would be featuring the resolution of 2880*1440 and LG’s own in-TOUCH technology for greater touch performance, eliminating the need for cover glass and reducing the thickness of the G6’s LCD panel. LG has also been able to reduce the display’s bezel to just 0.2mm.”

There is no doubt that the display would be one of the shining points of the LG G6, and it’s no surprise because LG has been making top-of-the-class displays and the screen on LG’s flagship devices would never disappoint you. And it seems we could hope for LG’s bezel magic this year.

“Users will also be able to better view the display under sunlight as transmittance has increased 10 percent, while the display consumes about 30 percent less power than its predecessors,” reports The Korea Herald.

The event would take place on February 26 in Barcelona at 12 p.m. local time, which means the LG G6 is just about a month away from us. Are you expecting the LG G6?

  • Samsung to Launch the Newest Smartwatch Gear S3 on August 31

Posted on August 17th, 2016 admin No comments

Samsung will introduce another smartwatch this month. The Korea-based giant teased a launch event at the IFA electronics show in Germany, the date to watch for is August 31 and, as the invite above rather heavy-handedly hints, this will be the Gear S3.

Smartwatch sales reportedly dipped by one-third this year, according to analyst estimates. Samsung was one of a number of firms to hold or improve its numbers — Apple’s estimated sales cratered — and it is back with a new offering in an effort to increase interest, notably right before Apple is predicted to refresh its own smartwatch range in September.

The Gear S2, Samsung’s most recent smartwatch, launched in September 2015 at the very same show. The company’s early watch models struggled for acclaim, but we found the Gear S2 to be surprisingly good, with an attractive interface and well-designed spinning bezel. That leaves us and doubtless others intrigued by what Samsung has planned next.

What hints can we glean from the Gear S2? Well, the year-old device is available in two options — as the Samsung Gear S2 3G or the Gear S2 Classic — and Samsung later expanded the watch options to include Apple-esque gold and silver editions. There’s speculation that Samsung will go further and out three versions of the Gear S3 this time around, including an ‘explorer’ edition that could feature a crown, more buttons and changeable watch bands.

Either way, there’s not long to wait to find out for sure. Like other Samsung unveilings, the Gear S3 launch event will be streamed online so you can watch at your own convenience.
