After talking about the specs of the new iPad, let’s say something that the new iPad didn’t bring to us, or features the new iPad doesn’t include but may disappoint us a little.

A6 processor: Prior to launch, there were a lot of rumors and speculations towards what kind of chip would power the next iPad, A5 processor or brand-new A6 processor. After the iPhone 4S got a modified version of the A5 processor found in the iPad 2, many presumed the new iPad would get the A6 processor. Instead Apple released the new iPad with the A5X processor, though it’s quad-core chip and Apple claimed that the A5X processor is as fast as four times as the performance of NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor.

Siri: One of the biggest updates of iPhone 4S is the new Siri, the voice-controlled iPhone virtual assistant feature. Since this software emerged on iPhone 4S, all people would expect Apple to add Siri to the next iPad. But Apple just enabled the new iPad to allow users to dictate e-mails, without any mention of Siri.

iOS 6: Ars Technica reported that it was seeing devices running iOS 6 in logs, sparking hope that Apple might release–or at least tease–iOS 6. Alas, we’re only getting iOS 5.1 now. Expect more iOS news to emerge in June at Apple’s World Wide Developers conference.

A 128GB version: Since the full HD graphic effects with the Retina display, the new iPad is supposed to be one of the best choices to play HD movies and HD games. Thus, more memory storage is required for convenient HD movie playback and HD games playing. A 128GB version of iPad is thus highly expected. But Apple just provides a topping choice at 64GB with no memory expansion slot.

These four features have made them big disappointments to the new iPad. Others include: the absence of a rumored iPad mini version, the same design as that of iPad 2, no lighter weight, etc. But even though these things make the new iPad somewhat disappointed, we have to admit that currently there are few tablets that could compete with the new iPad. Only the Retina display would make other competitors lag far behind.

1. Business users

Mobile CRM apps and services for iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Phones and Blackberry devices to be roll out in Q2 from Microsoft

Microsoft announced on Monday that it will embrace rival mobile platforms and browsers with a planned second-quarter service update of its Microsoft Dynamics CRM application, including iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Phones and Blackberry devices. “In today’s hyperconnected world, customers need to be able to access their business-critical data on the device of their choice,” said Dennis Michalis, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, in a statement. The Dynamics CRM service update will include a new cloud-based mobile CRM service called Microsoft Dynamics CRM Mobile. All of the new mobile CRM releases will be ready at the same time and downloadable from their respective marketplaces on the same day, said Craig Dewar, Director of Product Management for Dynamics CRM.

The coming Dynamics CRM mobile clients/service starts at $30 per user, per month and supports the use of up to three devices per user. While this sounds pricey compared to the going rate for Office 365 and its component parts, it looks like it undercuts Salesforce’s comparable mobile-client offering, which starts at $65 per user per month. (Salesforce also has a free Mobile Lite CRM client with limited capabilities and connectivity, as does Microsoft, which still offers Mobile Express for Dynamics CRM.)

In addition to adding mobile support to its platform, Microsoft also is stepping up its cross-browser support for Dynamics CRM users. With the Q2 update, users will have a choice of Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari running on PCs, Macs and iPads. Here’s a chart showing which versions will be supported on which platforms:

The Q2 update also will add more social capabilities, making Microsoft’s social CRM components look and feel even more like Facebook- and/or Salesforce Chatter. Users will have the ability to like/unlike status updates on their Activity Feeds and get improved filtering capabilities.

Users of the on-premises version of the Q2 update also will have access to new Microsoft Excel Workbooks with pre-defined PowerPivot models and Power View Report templates to help them perform quick analyses in areas like product sales, customer demographics and sales pipelines. (Power View, a k a “Project Crescent,” is a new self-service business-intelligence feature in SQL Server 2012, which is due to launch on March 7.) Microsoft plans to add support for these enterprise capbilities to Dynamics CRM, too, at some point in the future, officials said.

Microsoft officials said last year that the company planned to deliver quarterly updates (two major/two minor) to both its on-premises Dynamics CRM product and its hosted CRM Online one.

The Dynamics CRM unit isn’t the only Microsoft division that is upping its cross-platform support.

Microsoft already offers OneNote for the iPhone and iPad; a SkyDrive cloud-storage app for iPhone; a Lync client for Android; a Lync client for iPhone and Hotmail for Android. Company officials said late last year to expect even more mobile cross-platform app support from Microsoft in 2012, especially on Android devices.

Now we have yet another report: that a Retina display iPad 3 will launch in March, with an upgraded iPad 4 (or iPad 3 Pro?) launching in October.

It also, however, says that other upgrades won’t be as exciting as many are expecting. What does that last part mean? It says that the real battle for market share will take place among 2012′s second iPad, Windows 8 tablets, and Intel’s Clover Trail-W platform. The description of the alleged iPad 4 is vague: it merely says that it will have “much upgraded hardware specifications” and “integrated applications” (Siri, perhaps?).

Would Apple release two iPads in one year? It’s possible, but keep in mind that the same trade publication that ran this rumor also predicted a second iPad in 2011. That obviously didn’t happen. It sounds more likely in 2012, as there is expected to be tighter competition (from Windows 8, a Google tablet, and perhaps a larger Kindle Fire) than there was in 2011.

Yes, we’re getting into the season where iPad rumors fly in from all angles, with no indication of what’s plausible and what isn’t. Within the next month or two, it will build to a feverish pitch that will take us all back to last summer; that was when iPhone 5 rumors covered the entire gamut of possibilities. Prepare for exhaustion.
