The Chinese electronics manufacturer, Huawei, officially announced its new Ascend P6 smartphone and claimed it to be the “world’s slimmest smartphone” during an unveiling event in London on Tuesday, June 18th.

The Huawei Ascend P6 is only 6.18 mm in depth. This makes it much thinner than competitors like the7.6mm thick iPhone 5 and the 7.9mm thick Samsung Galaxy S4. This new model is now the flagship smartphone in Huawei’s Ascend P series. Earlier this year, Huawei launched its Ascend P2 phone, which at the time the company called the “world’s fastest smartphone.”

As to its smartphone specs, besides it is so impressively slim, the Ascend P6 has quite a lot of goodies packed under its hood. Inside the sleek metallic body of the Huawei Ascend P6 ticks a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. There is a 4.7-inch LCD touchscreen with HD resolution gracing its front – 1280 by 720 pixels, which makes it quite an amazing experience to watch HD movies on Huawei Ascend P6. Huawei notes that an in-cell touch display that is known for their slimness has been used. The smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel main camera that can capture macro shots from as close as 4 centimeters, and a 5MP front-facing shooter that ensures that your self-portraits will look as good as they should. The device also features a 2000mAh battery. And although there is a decent 2000mAh battery tucked behind its back plate, the Huawei Ascend P6 weighs a mere 120 grams.

Currently, Huawei only announced some specs of this new smartphone. The detailed marketing release date and the price level are still to be confirmed. Stay tuned for more info.
