RIM revealed 5 new BlackBerry smart mobile phones featuring BlackBerry 7 OS in August
Posted on August 4th, 2011 No commentsAfter nearly one year, the Canadian smartphone pioneer Research in Motion (RIM) announced that 5 new BlackBerry smart mobile phones would be marketed this month, with the latest BlackBerry 7 OS. These 5 new smart mobile phones include 2 new BlackBerry Bold models and 3 new iterations of the BlackBerry Torch models and are set to hit carriers such as AT&T and Sprint this August. The detailed mobile model numbers are BlackBerry Bold 9900, BlackBerry Bold 9930, BlackBerry Torch 9810, BlackBerry Torch 9850 and BlackBerry Torch 9860. Let’s take a look at these five new smartphones bellow.
Bold 9900/9930 – RIM claims this is its thinnest BlackBerry smart mobile phone yet with a thickness of 10.5mm and also the first BlackBerry to contain a built-in NFC chip with full physical QWERTY keyboard. Detailed features include:
2.8″ (640 x 480) display with multi-touch capabilities
8GB of onboard memory and a microSD slot for up to 32GB cards memory extension
A 5MP flash camera with 4x digital zoom and 720p video capture capabilities
Integrated GPS
WiFi connection of 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz) and a/n (5GHz)
Quad-band GSM, and Tri-band UMTS/HSPA
3G network connection
BlackBerry Torch 9810/9850/9860 – Different from the Bold models, the BlackBerry Torch models feature larger touch screens. The 3.2″ touchscreen BlackBerry Torch 9810 features a slider QWERTY keyboard and 4G network connectivity, 5 megapixel camera, 802.11 b/g/n, Quad-band GSM and Tri-band UMTS/HSPA connectivity. The Torch 9850 and 9860 smartphones have no physical keyboards, but with 3.7-inch display with a resolution of 800 by 480, 4G built-in memory, supportable MicroSD card slot for up to 32GB memory extension, 5 megapixel camera and 802.11 b/g/n. The Torch 9860 will run on 4G networks, while the 9850 will stick with 3G service.
This lineup launch would be quite important and significant for RIM, who has been facing strong rivals like Google Android smart phones and Apple iOS phones, and been losing its market share for months. “This is the largest global launch of BlackBerry smartphones in our history,” Mike Lazaridis, RIM’s president and co-CEO, said in a statement. “The BlackBerry solution offers a best-in-class mobile communications experience that customers love, and we think they will be thrilled by the faster performance, enhanced browsing and richer multimedia delivered by these powerful new BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Torch smartphones.”

About 1000 BlackBerry PlayBook Recalled by RIM: What People Say on RIM
Posted on May 16th, 2011 No commentsBlackBerry maker, RIM (Research In Motion Ltd.), has recalled about 1,000 of its 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook tablets that were shipped to Stapes with faulty operating systems which may have prevented users from performing the initial setup of the device. Analysts mentioned that over the first day of release, RIM sold 45.000 units of the device, 900 is a small figure to worry about.
In a statement, RIM said the majority of the affected devices are still in the distribution channel and haven’t reached customers. “RIM is working to replace the affected devices……In the small number of cases where a customer received a PlayBook that is unable to properly load software upon initial set-up, they can contact RIM for assistance.“
Users have been quite active to the BlackBerry PlayBook issue. Some commented that RIM would be the next PALM just like dead man walking, while some others highly commented RIM’s recalling and made comparison between RIM and Apple, HP, Dell or other giants. Here I have found some comments online:
“I used to have great admiration for RIM and their ability to provide tech solutions that were on the cutting edge. But since they have failed to recognize that users want an eco system rather than one-off products, I can’t justify giving them my future support. Perhaps they need 1 less CEO so that the company can go in a focused direction. I dunno, I’m just a lone observer here.” From Online.VSJ.Com.
“If RIM recalls a product, that is actually a good thing. They care about customers getting a bad product and perhaps tarnishing their brand. Kudos to RIM. Standing up and saying “sorry about that, we’ll fix it” takes serious balls in today’s PR focused world.” From Engadget.com.
