• Popular iPhone 5 rumors on hardware & software features and release date

Posted on May 15th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

We did a lot of guess work last year about the next generation of iPhone, which was mostly supposed to be iPhone 5, but finally turned to be iPhone 4S. And now, the anticipations and rumors about the next iPhone have been widely spread around the world. Especially since last Saturday, when Hong Kong-based components supplier SW-Box claimed to have gained possession of a group of new components of iPhone 5, including a headphone jack, ear speaker, and a Wi-Fi cable part, which are all allegedly being built for Apple’s sixth-generation iPhone. Other features of iPhone 5 leaked from SW-Box included a new SIM card tray and slightly tweaked home buttons, all minor changes to the design. But there were reports that Apple is leaning towards bigger and brighter displays, a thinner form factor, and a slew of new software features, which may suggest a totally different design from that of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. As Apple’s WWDC 2012 is not far away, we may want to know whether Apple would officially release the iPhone 5 on WWDC 2012 or not (there’re rumors that iPhone 5 to be released on June’s WWDC and shipment available this October). This is still unknown. But before that, let’s make a collection of the popular rumors on iPhone 5’s features.

    iPhone 5 images

Here’re some rumored features and release date of iPhone 5. Let’s take a look.

iPhone 5 release date: Currently, the release date of iPhone 5 is most rumored to be the mid of late 2012, wherein October seems to be the most reliable month for the iPhone 5. And the first appearance of iPhone 5 is mostly believed to be around the WWDC 2012, this June.

iPhone 5 form: It’s been commonly recognized that the new iPhone would adopt quite new physical design from that of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. There have been anticipations about its size; some said it would be a 5-inch device while some others said a 4-inch device is likely. Personally, I would agree with the latter.

iPhone 5 processor: It’s highly believed that the new iPhone 5 would adopt a quad-core processor, which might be called the Apple A6. We had expected some kind of help in terms of predicting the iPhone 5 CPU from the launch of the new iPad, but the announcement of a slightly tweaked A5X processor really didn’t help things there.

iPhone 5 network connectivity: The new iPhone 5 is believed to have support for 4G/LTE network connectivity. Two reasons for this: one is the 4G network connectivity on new iPad, and the other one is that there’ve been so many 4G handsets in the smartphone market.

iPhone 5 screen: In March 2012, new reports suggested that the new iPhone 5 would come sporting a larger 4.6-inch retina display, while April rumours even suggested the next iPhone will use new touch technology and will be encased in something called “liquidmetal.”

iPhone 5 digital wallet: With so many handsets realized NFC (Near Field Communication technology) as phone payment system, the next iPhone is widely considered to include digital wallet. Apple won a major patent on March 6 for a piece of technology called the “iWallet”, a digital system that gives users complete control over their subsidiary financial accounts on their iPhones, and also leverages Near-Field Communication technology to complete credit card transactions directly on the phone as well.

iPhone 5 camera: Sources have suggested the new iPhone could have an 8MP camera. Indeed, Sony announced in January 2012 that it had developed new back-illuminated stacked CMOS image sensors which are smaller in size.

iPhone 5 price: The new iPhone will cost around £500 for a 16GB / 32GB model (depending on the capacity Apple whacks in there) and unless the iPhone 5 comes with some truly next generation technology that pricing model should hold firm.

  • 6 features of Apple iPhone 5 that are most anticipated

Posted on May 4th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

The waiting for the Apple iPhone 5, ever since the release of iPhone 4, has been for so long a time that we may care more about what Apple iPhone 5 would bring to us. There were a lot of anticipations and speculations towards the Apple iPhone 5 since iPhone 4, like an advanced processor (A5), large screen display, edge-to-edge design, better battery, etc. Some have been realized in iPhone 4S, while still some other need to be realized in future Apple iPhones. Here, I have collected some features about Apple iPhone 5 that are most anticipated from people around the world and hopped to be included in the next generation of Apple iPhone, probably iPhone 5 or other codename. Check the following content to get the detailed things about Apple iPhone, as that might be the specific features of the next Apple iPhone. And feel free to show your own opinions on the next Apple iPhone in the comment part.

iPhone 5New redesign: With the iPhone 4S, we didn’t get the redesign that a lot of people were hoping for. But in the next generation of Apple iPhone, it’s almost certain we’ll get it with the iPhone 5. Will it be thinner, with a teardrop design? Look more like the iPad 2? Bigger screen? Well, all these seem to be possible on the next iPhone.

Better battery life: Battery life has been a big concern on smartphones. Every time Apple puts out a new iPhone, the battery life gets slightly better, so we expect no less from the sixth-generation iPhone.

4G network compatibility: With the development of 4G network connectivity, more and more smartphones are 4G network connectivity supported for faster speed on downloading. But on iPhone 4S, it in facts supports only a 3.5G network connectivity, other than a real 4G network connectivity. As many rivals of Apple iPhone start to support 4G, it’s firmly believed that the next iPhone would add 4G into its plan.

A6 processor: Apple iPhone 4s and its 3rd generation of iPad have adopted 1GHz A5 processor for better processing performance. Many people anticipated an A6 processor on the next Apple iPhone. The A6 chip is reportedly a 28nm process (compared with the A5’s 45nm), meaning lower energy consumption and higher speeds. A faster processor would improve the performance of Siri, the iPhone 4S’ integrated voice assistant, as well as a host of other features, including still and video image capture, thus it is quite reasonable for people to look forward to an A6 processor.

Improved 3D graphics: Apple improves the graphics capabilities with each new iteration of the iPhone, with the iPhone 4S offering a big jump over the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S has the PowerVR SGX543MP found in the iPad 2, and we expect that the iPhone 5 will get the next-generation PowerVR chip, as the PowerVR SGX545 had been announced last year already.

NFC support: When the iPhone 4S was going to be released, there had been voices for the NFC (Near Field Communication technology), which finally was missed on iPhone 4S. Since many other smartphones have always added this technology and the mature of NFC technology, it’s great possible for Apple to add NFC support on Apple iPhone 5.

  • More iPhone 5 specs leaked for a probably October 4th release

Posted on September 27th, 2011 David Brooks No comments

During a speech at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit, Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States and current Apple board member, stated that new Apple iPhones will be released next month. This well indicates that either there would be one new iPhone model on multiple carriers, or two new iPhone models are ready for the October release. There are also reports which tell that there would be more than 30 million iPhone 5 handsets with an upgraded antenna and other changes ready to be released. The release date of Apple iPhone 5 has been most probably confirmed to be October 4th, but what about the specs of Apple iPhone 5? Check the bellow content to get an overview about Apple iPhone 5 specs.

    iPhone 5

Compared with iPhone 4, the iPhone 5 made a big upgrade in various points:

    1. Like the iPad 2, the new iPhone 5 adopts the dual-core A5 processor for faster processing speed and better gaming effect and graphical display. What is prior to iPad 2 is that the iPhone 5 features with 1GB RAM, which not only means the better performance in surfing the internet, but total different performance in background task as well. Thus no matter you want to watch DVD on iPhone 5 or watch HD Blu-ray on iPhone 5, you would enjoy more than before.

    2. The iPhone 5 also comes with big upgrade in photographic system with 8MP camera and backlit sensor. And according to the discovery in iOS SDK, the iPhone 5 may function with the ability for full view shooting.

    3. The iPhone 5 would come with Qualcomm Gobi baseband chip to support both GSM and CDMA network connection. It is still to be confirmed whether Apple is trying to configure virtual SIM card and NFC chipset.

    4. A new shinning point of iPhone 5 is the new Assistant software. Assistant is the Global Voice Navigation system which needs CPU of A5 processor, thus users couldnot experience it on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. And as a supplement to Assistant, iPhone 5 would also include Nuance to transfer voice to script. Users only need to click the transmitter when inputting voice.

All the specs and new features of Apple iPhone 5 would be clear on October 4th. And maybe more surprises would come to users that day. Stay tuned for more information on the iPhone 5.

    Enhanced voice control
Rumors have been circulating for a while that voice controls are coming to the iPhone. But when? Certainly no one would complain if you were ablet to compose and send e-mails or text messages with the sound of your voice. Chances of implementation: 70 percent

    Micro-HDMI out
Right now you need Apple’s $39 Digital AV to send HD video or audio to a TV or monitor but a a built-in Micro-HDMI port, similar to the ones available in Android smartphones, would only cost a $5 cable. Chances of implementation: 2 percent. Photo credit: Apple

    Expandible memory
Another fat chance. Chances of implementation: 1 percent. Photo credit: Kingston

    Biometric security
Taking security to the next level where you can unlock your phone with a finger swipe instead of a password. Chances of implementation: 25 percent. Photo credit: Apple

    NFC-enabled (near field communication technology)
With better security, there’s a better chance that you could use your iPhone to make payments like a credit card. You could also use it as a car key. Chances of implementation: 35 percent. Photo credit: Visa

    More memory

Improved home screen and notifications system
iOS 5 promises a more customizable home screen, a “real” dashboard, and a better notifications system. iPhones have been falling short of Android devices in this area. Chances of implementation: 100 percent. Photo credit: Apple

This is coming on iCloud this fall. No videos yet but you can mirror your music library, regardless of the origin, for $25 per year. Chances of implementation: 100 percent. Photo credit: Apple

Video chat (FaceTime) over cellular network
FaceTime works on Wi-Fi on iPhone 4 and it looks like you will be able to use it on a cellular network with iOS 5 but the carriers might be in control. Chances of implementation: 75 percent. Photo credit: Apple

    Flash support
Well… Chances of implementation: 1 percent

    Dual-core processor
The 1GHz A5 dual-core processor that’s in the iPad 2 will most likely power the iPhone 5. Other phone makers such as LG and Motorola are already using dual-core chips. Chances of implementation: 100 percent. Photo credit: Apple

Universal carrier support (CDMA and GSM)
Apparently, Apple already uses the Qualcomm MDM6600 chip that’s capable of running on both CDMA and GSM networks. But GSM network support is not enabled in the Verizon iPhone 4. Rumors say a Sprint iPhone with both networks is being tested. Chances of implementation: 70 percent. Photo credit: iFixit.com

    Better battery life
This usually comes with a new model. iPhone 4 had a 40 percent battery life than iPhone 3GS. Chances of implementation: 80 percent

    Fewer failed and dropped calls
AT&T appears to be the biggest culprit although many blame the iPhone itself. Sprint could draw off enough customers to keep the network from getting clogged. Chances of implementation: 45 percent

    An actual redesign
Rumors are off the charts – some suggest that Apple could use its iPad 2 design. Chances of implementation: 50 percent. Photo credit: culttofmac.com

    4G network compatibility
It will come eventually but whether now is the time is up in the air. Many think Apple hasn’t figured out how to preserve battery life while using a 4G data network. Chances of implementation: 50 percent
