AppleIt is reported that Apple is planning to celebrate Apple Stores’ 10th Anniversary this month. The first pair of Apple stores opened on a Saturday, May 19, 2001, in Glendale, Calif., and the Tysons Corner mall in McLean, Va. May 19 falls on a Thursday this year, but Apple’s big event could hit on Saturday or Sunday, the anniversary weekend of the initial launch. The reports have said that Apple is working on a major makeover for its retail stores and consumers can expect to see big displays, futuristic architecture and more interactivity.

According to AppleInsider, employees have been told not to expect May 20 to 22 off, for the 10th Anniversary Big Event. Other big announcements are also expected – stores opening, a possible unveiling of “iCloud“, an online locker for music and other multimedia, and the announcement of an iOS app for the Apple Store 2.0. The latter seems a little strange, basically an app that will describe what’s going on in the store you’re at and can be used to call for a specialist.

It is also reported that Apple Store employees would use iPad tablets as interactive display units, rather than iPod Touch used currently. Apple Store employees usually used to use iPod Touch to show consumers Apple’s products. The iPad tablets are very convenient for product demos and interactive communication with users. Also, Apple will release RetailMe employee training program of iPad version.

The stores are also said to be getting big digital displays which may be “huge” in some cases and better sound systems. All of this will be supported with a new store app on iOS devices that may show you where the item you’re interested in seeing is located in a specific store.
