• Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 shipment availability date delayed to late April

Posted on April 6th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

Samsung announced on Tuesday that the company had delayed the shipment date of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (both 7.0 inch and 10.1 inch versions) to the end of this April. These two low priced tablets would be on market in the end of April in UK. When these two tablets were released by Samsung in February, they were set to be available in UK market in March and followed by the world market availability. But by now the devices are still not out on market.

As said by the Samsung spokesman, the delay of the Galaxy Tab 2 is due to more time required by Samsung and Google in developing Android 4.0 (Ices Cream Sandwich) OS for the new tablets. No detailed information is provided.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2Both Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 inch version and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 inch version will adopt the latest Android OS. It is estimated that the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0 inch) would be the first tablet that configures with the latest Android OS. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) sports a 7-inch (d’oh) display with a resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels to provide excellent video experience for you to watch DVD movies on Galaxy Tab 2, a dual-core processor in tow and Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. While the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) is powered by a 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor and has 1GB of RAM, 7000mAh battery, 3MP camera, etc. Compared with the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 inch version, the 10.1” Galaxy Tab 2 sports 1280×800 pixels of resolution screen display, which allows full HD display effect for you to watch Blu-ray movies on Galaxy Tab 2. Asides these, both Galaxy Tab 2 tablets will be available in 3G and WiFi connectivity.

This has been the second delay of its new products which feature with the latest Android 4.0 OS system. The other one is about the Galaxy Note update date, which is delayed to the second season, other than the original plan in season one. But the latest news shows that the official Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note has been leaked from RootzWiki. The candidate version of Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0 has passed the network test. It would not be long for the release of the official version of Android 4.0 OS release.

  • HTC announced the HTC One series on MWC 2012, including HTC One X, HTC One S and HTC One V

Posted on February 27th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

With the opening of the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2012, HTC officially released its latest HTC One series, including three fresh new smartphones: the quad-core flagship HTC One X, ultra-slim HTC One S, and the music oriented HTC One V smartphone for the mid-range smartphone market. The flagship phone One X is the most impressive on paper, but the One S isn’t far behind it as a next-gen phone. The One V is their lowest level of the three, yet still manages to include Beats audio and an extremely slim body while maintains the unique look of the once iconic HTC Legend. I would like to make a brief introduction about these three new smartphones:

HTC One series releaseHTC One X: What was rumored has now been officially confirmed on the spec front. HTC seems to make this HTC One X a wonderful smartphone for users to enjoy HD movies on HTC One X due to its excellent configuration. The device will rock a 1.5GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor (in most of the world), 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.0, a 4.7″Super LCD 2 HD screen with Gorilla Glass, NFC chip, 32GB of storage, 1800mAh non-removable battery, Beats audio, 8MP camera with F2.0 aperture and 28mm lens, and is ridiculously thin at 8.9mm. It will begin to ship globally in April. AT&T has this one locked up in the U.S. though. Click to get the exactly detailed specs of HTC One X.

HTC One S: Though not as the flagship smartphone HTC One X, the One S should not be overlooked. Rocking Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 dual-core chipset, this phone is as powerful as any other phone we have seen come to life thus far. It also has a 4.3″qHD display with Gorilla Glass, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0, Beats audio, the same amazing 8MP camera as the One X, 1650mAh battery, and an unbelievably thin 7.8mm body, which may produce even better digital experience for users, like to watch DVD movies on HTC One S. HTC went with an ultra-matte black Ceramic Metal surface that is harder than aluminum and will keep better over time. The One S will also be shipped in April, heading to T-Mobile in the U.S.

HTC One V: Utilizing the classic, award-winning design of the HTC Legend, the HTC One V brings top-end design to a smartphone with broad appeal and a premium experience that delivers an amazing camera and authentic sound. It features a simple, iconic aluminum unibody design that exudes craftsmanship and quality. The One V is HTC’s budget phone for early 2012. It has a single-core processor and 512MB of RAM, yet still runs Android 4.0 and a similarly amazing camera to the One S and One X.

  • Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire: Is Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 going to be a Kindle Fire killer

Posted on February 16th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

Prague, February 13, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today introduced its first line-up of tablets for 2012 with the launch of the GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0), expanding the choice of tablets to customers. Light and portable, the GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) is the ideal personal on-the-go device, available in 3G and WiFi versions. Starting from UK, the GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) will be launched in global market from March.”  (click to get the full Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Press Release). This Monday, Samsung officially released the successor of its Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet, the Galaxy Tab 2, also the first Samsung Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) powered tablet. “The new GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) will provide people with delighted multimedia experience and allow efficient communication.” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2Samsung has promised to bring more delighted multimedia experience to users with Galaxy Tab 2. And it really does. The Galaxy Tab 2 comes in 7.0 inch large LCD screen with 1024*600 screen resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 out of the box, all of which really produce delighted multimedia experience for you to watch HD videos on Galaxy Tab 2, or even play and watch HD Blu-ray movies on Galaxy Tab 2 on the go at your own will. From the excellent multimedia experience only, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a good choice for you when you want to get a tablet. If you are still not sure about it, let’s just make a comparison (based on the source from geek.com) between Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and Kindle Fire, one of the biggest products of the 2011 holiday season. This comparison of these two smart tablets would include several aspects: dimensions, weight, display, processor, RAM, storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, camera, battery, price, etc.

    Dimensions

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - DimensionsFrom the pictures above, the Galaxy Tab 2 is 122.4mm*193.7mm*10.5mm, while the Kindle Fire is 120mm*192mm*12.4mm. We can easily get the conclusion that the Galaxy Tab 2 is slimmer, longer and wider than Kindle Fire, which no doubt brings more delighted multimedia experience for users.

    Weight

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - WeightObviously, the Galaxy Tab 2 (weights 344g) is much lighter than Kindle Fire (which weights 413g). This could be considered as a big advantage of Galaxy Tab 2 over Kindle Fire.

    Display

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - DisplayWell, for the screen display size, both Galaxy Tab 2 and Kindle Fire own 7 inches screen with 1024*600 screen resolution and 169 pixels per inch. There is no difference on screen display size actually, but as the Galaxy Tab 2 is slimmer, longer and wider than Kindle Fire, it seems that the Galaxy Tab 2 would be a little bit larger than Kindle Fire. And the Galaxy Tab 2 uses Samsung’s new PLS LCD, while the Kindle Fire uses a standard IPS display.

    Processor

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - ProcessorThe device processor weights a lot for its competence and competitiveness. The Galaxy Tab 2 comes with 1GHz dual-core processor, inferior to the 1.2GHz dual-core processor of Galaxy Tab Plus, but evenly-matched to Kindle Fire. But we know different processor chips vary in performance, the Kindle Fire sports a Texas Instruments OMAP 4, while the processor chip of the Galaxy Tab 2 is still unknown.

    RAM

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - RAMAdvanced RAM configuration would surely bring faster device processing and more smooth multimedia experience. From this point of view, the Galaxy Tab 2 again gets a great victory over Kindle Fire with its 1GB RAM. Compared with Kindle Fire, the Galaxy Tab 2 produces better multimedia experience for you to watch HD videos.

    Storage

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - StorageAs nowadays the HD movies are the dominant for multimedia enjoyment, thus larger memory storage is required upon devices. Again, the Galaxy Tab 2 makes another beat on Kindle Fire. Samsung provides three different models of Galaxy Tab 2 with external SD card memory extension: 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, while Kindle Fire only provides 8GB memory storage without external SD card memory extension support.

    Wi-Fi connectivity

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - WiFiSamsung also offers more options for wireless connectivity. Like storage, though, you’ll have to pay for it. Those who opt for the more expensive 3G/4G version will enjoy HSPA+ 21mbps speeds. It isn’t LTE, but it should suffice for most users.

    Camera

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - CameraThe Galaxy Tab 2 features dual cameras, respectively 3GP for rear and VGA for front, which aren’t particularly mind-blowing, nonetheless. That’s been enough to compete with Amazon Kindle Fire, which has no cameras.

    Battery

Galaxy Tab 2 vs. Kindle Fire - BatteryIt’s a little surprising that Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 opted for a lower capacity battery than Amazon Kindle Fire. Battery life in the Fire is solid, but it could have easily been improved upon. There are many other factors that can determine battery life, though, so perhaps Samsung found the 4,000mAh battery to be sufficient. Future testing will tell us more here.

As for the price comparison, it is still uncertain for Samsung hasn’t yet priced the Galaxy Tab 2. But the price might be the biggest advantage of Kindle Fire, which is priced at only $200. The Galaxy Tab 2 would have different prices for its three different models. Until the prices are unveiled, we couldn’t make sure of that.

  • The latest speculations towards the release time and detailed specs of Samsung Galaxy S III

Posted on February 6th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

For a long time, the concerns about the Samsung Galaxy S III have been concentrated on the specifications. With almost all guess work on what the Samsung Galaxy S III would bring to us, we are more eager to know when we will see the living embodiment smartphone. Now, one thing may be for curtain is that the near past rumors that the Samsung would make a release announcement of Galaxy S III during MWC event is absolutely false. We are all aware of that the Samsung Galaxy S III will going to be released after the MWC. But what the exact time that will be still needs to be confirmed. Currently, two time durations about the Samsung Galaxy S III release date are quite popular online: one is a March 22nd release, while the other is May release.

Samsung Galaxy S IIIAccording to the French media FrAndroid web site which received invitations for a March 22nd event in France from Samsung and suggests that any announcement at the event will be related to the Android OS. There is the strong possibility that the event has something to do with the Samsung Galaxy S III. Of course, it also could be related to Samsung’s Google TV product or the launch of a Samsung product other than Galaxy S III. However, from the South Korean local news report of Electronic Times News (ETNews), which claims to have inside sources from Samsung, it is suggested that the Galaxy S III will first go up for sale in May. So, which one would be the right one, or none of these two guess work would be right? We’ll believe it when we see it.

As to the specs, last September, I wrote a post titled Samsung Galaxy S III hardware specifics leaked to surpass all existing mobile phones to predict the hardware configurations about Samsung Galaxy S III. The prediction seems to be mostly right upon the recent popular guesses about Samsung Galaxy S III. Reported by ETNews, the handset’s going to be 7mm thick, 1.9mm thin than Galaxy S 2, due to the shrinking down of its PCB, connector and chip sizes by between 10 and 20 percent. It features a built-in camera with 8MP for video and images shooting, just like the Galaxy S 2. The latest version will be running a custom quad-core processor with HDMI and LTE baked-in, and rather obviously it’ll be running Ice Cream Sandwich, both of which provides excellent digital experience for you to play DVD movies on Galaxy S III or watch HD videos on Galaxy S III. Parts are reportedly gearing up to be shipped, but the only time we’ll get confirmation is when that special event kicks off closer to the summer.
