• Huawei Launched Honor 8 in US, Starts at $400 for 32GB

Posted on August 19th, 2016 admin No comments

Huawei, the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer, announced the availability of its Honor 8 smartphone in the US. The device was first launched in China last month. The price of the phone begins at $400 for the 32GB version and $450 for the 64GB version. The metal and glass phone will feature a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, which the company claims will unlock the device in 0.4 seconds.

Huawei Honor 8 features 5.2-inch AMOLED display with 1080×1920 pixels. The phone runs Android 6 Marshmallow on a HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, with a 2.3 GHz octa-core CPU with a 16nm architecture. The phone has 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB storage (expandable to 256GB). The phone supports NFC, P2P transfer, and SIM/HCE-based mobile payment. The phone also features a smart file-processing system.

The phone is the latest in the growing set of device offerings to feature dual rear cameras. While Huawei’s P9 had Leica branded dual rear cameras, Honor 8 ditches that branding in favour of a modest dual camera setup. Honor 8 features 12MP dual rear cameras and an 8MP front camera. One of the two rear camera sensor shoots images in monochrome, for more light and sharpness, and the other sensor captures the image in colour. The combined outcome of both cameras, according to Huawei, is a much crisper and detailed photo.

The phone comes with a 3,000 mAh battery that supports fast charging and USB Type-C port. The company claims that the phone will give two hours of phone-call time for a 10-min charge. Honor 8 can charge to 47 per cent in 30 minutes.

Xiang Ligang, telecom expert and CEO of the industry website cctime.com, said: “Honor 8 mirrors Huawei’s cutting-edge technology. It is quite rare for the company to hold such a big ceremony in the US to launch its products. This is a major push,” Xiang said.

Honor 8, priced from $399.99 in the US, is more expensive than the same models sold in China, which starts from $346. The phone is now available for purchase with most e-retailers in the US.

  • Samsung to Launch the Newest Smartwatch Gear S3 on August 31

Posted on August 17th, 2016 admin No comments

Samsung will introduce another smartwatch this month. The Korea-based giant teased a launch event at the IFA electronics show in Germany, the date to watch for is August 31 and, as the invite above rather heavy-handedly hints, this will be the Gear S3.

Smartwatch sales reportedly dipped by one-third this year, according to analyst estimates. Samsung was one of a number of firms to hold or improve its numbers — Apple’s estimated sales cratered — and it is back with a new offering in an effort to increase interest, notably right before Apple is predicted to refresh its own smartwatch range in September.

The Gear S2, Samsung’s most recent smartwatch, launched in September 2015 at the very same show. The company’s early watch models struggled for acclaim, but we found the Gear S2 to be surprisingly good, with an attractive interface and well-designed spinning bezel. That leaves us and doubtless others intrigued by what Samsung has planned next.

What hints can we glean from the Gear S2? Well, the year-old device is available in two options — as the Samsung Gear S2 3G or the Gear S2 Classic — and Samsung later expanded the watch options to include Apple-esque gold and silver editions. There’s speculation that Samsung will go further and out three versions of the Gear S3 this time around, including an ‘explorer’ edition that could feature a crown, more buttons and changeable watch bands.

Either way, there’s not long to wait to find out for sure. Like other Samsung unveilings, the Gear S3 launch event will be streamed online so you can watch at your own convenience.

  • Apple Reportedly to Release New 10.5-Inch iPad Pro in 2017

Posted on August 15th, 2016 admin No comments

According to a respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose latest predictions for the iPhone-maker were reported by MacRumors, Apple is reportedly planning to release a trio of new iPads in 2017, including a new size 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a low-cost 9.7-inch iPad. Kuo also claims that “revolutionary” changes could be made to the iPad’s design in 2018, with Apple perhaps integrating a flexible AMOLED display to offer “new selling points through radical form design and user behavior changes.”

Here is Kuo on Apple’s 2017 iPad line-up:

“We expect three new iPads (12.9″ iPad Pro 2, new size 10.5″ iPad Pro & low-cost 9.7″ iPad) to be launched in 2017, though this may not drive shipment growth amid structural headwinds; 2017F shipments to fall 10-20% YoY. If the iPad comes in a larger size, such as a 10.5” model, we believe it will be helpful to bid for tenders within the commercial and education markets. “

“As a result, we expect Apple to launch a 10.5″ iPad Pro in 2017. In addition, we estimate the 12.9″ iPad Pro 2 and 10.5″ iPad Pro will adopt the A10X processor, with TSMC being the sole supplier using 10nm process technology. The low-cost 9.7″ model may adopt the A9X processor, which is also exclusively supplied by TSMC.”

A 10.5-inch iPad Pro model for “commercial and education markets” would certainly fit current trends for Apple’s tablets. Last week, it was reported that while sales for the iPad were declining overall, demanding is surging from businesses and government. “Apple is stronger in the enterprise market with its devices than it is with consumers,” Forrester analyst Frank Gillet told The New York Times.

It’s worth noting that Kuo does not mention the 7.9-inch iPad mini in his report. It could be that the analyst does not have any solid predictions for the smaller iPad, but there’s also the possibility that the mini will be phased out as demand in that size range shifts to the larger iPhone models.

As for 2018, Kuo says this could be a year of big changes for the iPad. “Revolutionary iPad model likely to be introduced in 2018F at the earliest, with radical changes in form factor design & user behavior on adoption of flexible AMOLED panel,” he writes. The adoption of such technology would boost sales by offering “new selling points through radical form factor design and user behavior changes,” says Kuo.

  • WhatsApp Releases the New Version with A Voicemail Feature

Posted on August 11th, 2016 admin No comments

WhatsApp updated the new version for iOS and Android users today. The new WhatsApp version 2.16.8 (iOS) and WhatsApp version 2.16.229 (Android) come with the Voicemail feature, which is taking the messaging app a little closer to being a true phone replacement.

Voice messages can now be left voicemail-style when calls are rejected or not answered by the person being called.
The app update works when calls are either rejected or not answered. On the bottom right of the call screen, there will be a microphone icon. When pressing and holding that, people can record a voicemail message that will be sent when they release the button.

Voice messages were in WhatsApp before this, so the recent update is more like a UI tweak to make leaving voice messages more convenient when calling someone. It’ll be more familiar to anyone use to making calls the old-fashioned way, at least. There’s no way to play back the message before sending it, but if users don’t like what they are recording, they can swipe left to get rid of it before releasing the button.

The Voice Message will be sent to the contact as a record voice note and (s)he will be able to listen to it whenever (s)he wants. It is good to know that this feature comes to WhatsApp a week after the company has included the option to send Olympic rings emoji.

In addition to the voice messaging tweak, Android Police is reporting that the new update has made it possible to select multiple recipients when sending a text message or image. It’s pretty handy when people have news and need to share with a lot of people, but they don’t have all those people in the same group.

WhatsApp is playing a more and more important role in people’s daily conmunication. And deleting some WhatsApp messages or attachments by accident will be frustrating for users. An Chinese iOS software manufacturer, Leawo Software, releases a new iOS data recovery tool, which can help people recover WhatsApp messages or WhatsApp attachments from iOS devices with no data loss. The software also supports with the latest iOS devices, including iPhone SE/6S/6S Plus and iPad Pro.

  • Sony Is Reportedly to Release the Upgraded PlayStation 4 in September

Posted on August 8th, 2016 admin No comments

According to Vice Gaming, Sony plans to unveil a 4K version of its PlayStation 4 next month. More likely, the upgraded PlayStation 4 will be named as PlayStation 4K Neo. The machine will reportedly be announced on September 7th during an event that will serve as a “technical showcase” for what the updated PS4 can do. That means we are likely looking at a preview of the new console’s graphics, but not necessarily firm details on when consumers will be able to buy it.

    upgraded-ps4

The upgraded PS4 is supposed to have improved specs that’ll allow it to run games at a higher resolution — right now, it can only go up to 1080p for games. Otherwise, the new model is more-or-less supposed to be the same console that’s been on the market for a few years, capable of playing the same games.

Sony has already confirmed that a 4K PS4 is in the works and that it’ll be sold alongside the existing PS4, at a higher price. “We will be selling both (versions) through the life cycle,” Andrew House, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO, told the Financial Times in June. He added that even after this console’s release, “All games will support the standard PS4, and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.”

The announcement comes on the heels of Microsoft’s Xbox One S, which was launched last week. While the One S can’t handle 4K games — another Xbox will be released next year with 4K support — it marks the start of a new battle between the two leading console companies, with each offering occasional hardware updates to keep their machines up to date with the latest tech. It sounds like Sony plans on staying in the lead.
