• Sony Launches FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 Action Cameras on Sept. 12

Posted on September 12th, 2016 admin No comments

In order to expand its product portfolio, Sony today announced two new live action cameras: FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300, which both offer advanced image stabilisation. They are priced starting at $400 and $300.

The big difference between the two cameras is that the Sony FDR-X3000 supports 4K UHD video, while the Sony HDR-AS300 only supports full-HD recording. Sony highlights the big talking point of the new action cameras to be the image stabilisation feature called Balanced Optical SteadyShot (B.O.SS). The camera and the lens are fused in a way that they move together for a more smooth result. Sony claims that footage shot on the FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 will be smooth irrespective of handheld shooting, even while you are running or cycling.

The company is also launching a new live remote unit that becomes the viewfinder while capturing footage. As compared to previous generations, the live view remote is 30 percent smaller making it more compact and portable. Sony is also bundling a watch strap to enable wearing it on the wrist.

Both the FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 include a Sony Exmore R CMOS sensor and a BIONZ X image processor. The 4K Sony FDR-X3000 captures video at 100Mbps, and can shoot 120fps video in 1080p. Users can takle and watch 4K videos without any limits. The Sony HDR-AS300 captures video in 1080p at 50Mbps, and shoots 120fps video in 720p. There’s an additional underwater housing bundled with the cameras that makes them splash proof and waterproof for up to 60 metres.

As for the price, the Sony FDR-X3000 will be sold at $400, and the live view remote variant called the FDR-X3000R will be sold separately at $550. The Sony HDR-AS300 is priced at $300, and the live view remote variant called Sony HDR-AS300R will be priced at $450. Sony will first sell the two action cameras in North America starting late September.

  • Smasung Offcially Recall Galaxy Note 7 Due to Battery Issues

Posted on September 7th, 2016 admin No comments

Samsung launched and released the Galaxy Note 7 in August this year. Just like its predecessors, the Galaxy Note 7 was highly anticipated in the smartphone space. However, 35 customers have reported that the battery of the new Samsung phablet has exploded or caught fire while charging. According to Samsung, it has received 30-40 reports of Note 7 devices catching fire while charging. Out of the millions that were sold, that’s not very many phones. The odds of the phone actually catching fire are minuscule, but it’s still enough of a problem that you should take action.

All we know about the cause is that some of the batteries used in the Note 7 are at fault. Some owners may have also been using sketchy third-party charging cables, though this still shouldn’t make a battery explode. Not all phones are affected, but Samsung has not released any guidelines on which serial numbers are bad. Perhaps the company doesn’t know, or it may not be possible to track down all the bad batches. The bottom line — if you have a Note 7, it’s part of the recall.

Samsung is running the recall on its own in cooperation with carrier partners. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is not involved, which makes the process a little murky. If you bought your phone from a carrier, you can call or go into a store to return it without incurring any fees. If you purchased directly from Samsung, call the help number listed on the recall page.

It is not clear what will become of phones that were resold or imported. Because Samsung is doing all this proactively without the CPSC, there aren’t any rules about how to handle this. That makes buying the Note 7 from third-parties problematic. No official retail channels are still selling the Note 7 right now. More stock with new batteries will begin showing up this week, which is what Samsung will use to replace defective Note 7s. Some carriers are also offering the option of swapping for a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge and getting a refund for the difference. If you see a Note 7 for sale on eBay or other reselling sites, don’t buy it. There’s no guarantee you’ll be able to swap it yourself and it’s guaranteed to be one of the recalled phones right now.

Although Samsung has not confirmed the cost of the recall, estimates compiled by Bloomberg from Credit Suisse Group AG, Daishin Securities Co. and Pelham Smithers Associates suggest that the battery snafu with the Galaxy Note 7 may have cost the company about $1 billion.

  • Sony’s Big Event on September 7: What Do We Expect?

Posted on September 7th, 2016 admin No comments

On September 7, 2016, besides Apple’s New iPhone release event, there is another event organized by Sony. Sony is holding a press conference that reveals detailed information about the upcoming PlayStaion 4 Slim (PS4 Slim) and PS4 Neo.

    How to watch:

    playstation-meeting-live

Sony’s PlayStation event is happening in New York, at the PlayStation Theater in Times Square. It starts at 3 p.m. ET, which is noon PT. Yes, that’s the same day as Apple’s iPhone 7 event in San Francisco, although the Sony event starts two hours after Apple, which should give you ample time to watch both. The PlayStation event will be streamed live on Twitch, the video broadcasting platform already built into the PS4 operating system.

    What to expect:

The PlayStation VR headset is already dated for October 13, at $399 (£349 or AU$550), so don’t expect to see much more new information about that, aside from perhaps some new game announcements.

    PS4 Slim:

It seems much more likely that Sony will talk about either one or two new console hardware products. The first is a slim version of the current PlayStation 4 console. For the moment we’re calling it the PS4 Slim. This comes on the heels of the Xbox One S, itself a slim version of Microsoft’s Xbox One. It’s worth noting that both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 eventually begat slim versions after a couple of years. In fact, Sony also did slimmer versions of the PlayStation 2 and even the original model.

While the Xbox One S adds 4K video support and a couple of other new features, the leaked information to date about the PS4 Slim suggests it’s simply a smaller version of the original PS4. The PS4 Slim has already been spotted in the wild, and it looks as if there’s nothing much new about it, save a smaller footprint and modest controller differences.

    PS4 Neo:

There’s also a good chance Sony will talk about its next console, which is rumored to be an upgraded 1.5 version of the PS4. Similar to Microsoft’s Project Scorpio, this semi-new console, code-named Project Neo, will reportedly add a new processor and graphics chip to the basic PS4 hardware, allowing for better game visuals, better VR experiences and maybe even 4K support.
