• Battles of Mid-2013 Flagship Android Smartphones: LG G2 vs. Samsung Galaxy S 4 vs. HTC One vs. Moto X

Posted on August 8th, 2013 David Brooks No comments

The LG G2 is a high-end Android smartphone – an embodiment of cutting-edge hardware and precision-polished software, sprinkled with a handful of innovative goodies all over. It comes with top-of-the-line specifications, including a 5.2-inch, 1080p display made using IPS LCD technology, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip running at 2.3GHz, and 2GB of RAM. In terms of performance, the device should rank among the best handsets to date. Further down the list we have an advanced 13MP camera that stands out with cool features like optical image stabilization and 1080p video capturing at 60 frames per second. A notable multimedia feature is the support for 24-bit, 192kHz audio.

LG G2 vs. Samsung Galaxy S 4 vs. HTC One vs. Moto X

The design of the LG G2 is quite unusual for its volume and power buttons are placed on the back. Its thickness of 9 millimeters is acceptable considering that inside the phone you’ll find a 3000mAh removable battery. 32GB of on-board storage are present, expandable further through the use of a microSD card (in some markets).

Until now, there have been quite several flagships of Android smartphones on the market. If you’re looking for a spec-to-spec throwdown among the G2, Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, and Motorola Moto X, start with this chart right here.

Keep in mind that we’ve had a limited amount of time with the G2, and that we won’t be able to draw any concrete conclusions until we compare our in-house review units face to face.

  • HTC One “MEGA” Tipped with 5+ Inch Screen Is Coming

Posted on May 27th, 2013 David Brooks No comments

It is accepted that HTC One has received rave reviews since its inception, so without doubt HTC is considering releasing a bigger variant of the HTC One with similar specifications. The exact size of the MEGA version remains unknown, but it is believed that HTC One phablet variant’s screen size would range between 5.0-inches to 6.0-inches. The unofficial HTC One announcements will be the main theme within this week. Evidently the expected HTC One equipped with bigger screen is close at hand, bringing users with boon to enjoy photos and videos on bigger screen HTC One.

    HTC One Mega

HTC is high on success after selling more than five million HTC One handsets globally. The company might cash in on the handset’s popularity by releasing more versions of the flagship smartphone, a move similar to Samsung which is also speculated to launch three more Galaxy S4 variants in coming months. Flagship HTC One is picked as the prototype to help HTC debut two more HTC One relatives: one is HTC One “MEGA” with bigger screen between 5.0-inches to 6.0-inches, the other is HTC M4 which we have heard before.

Double your visual delight on HTC One “MEGA”

The upcoming bigger device is said to be a HTC One clone, with a slightly larger display. According to relative news, this device will be a response to the Samsung GALAXY S 4 and its own 5-inch display in a chassis similar in size to the Galaxy S III. This larger HTC One model will likely have a body that’s similar in thickness to the HTC One standard model with height and width closer to that of the HTC J Butterfly. It is worth mentioning that HTC Butterfly S will be equipped with a 5-inch Full HD touch screen, so that the expected future giant screen HTC One should at least with 5.5-inche touch screen.

Undoubtedly the enlargement in handset display aims at enhancing users’ visual delight, the bigger version HTC One is not an exception. Enjoying videos on HTC One would be a fantastic matter once the bigger display screen becomes a typical trait of this smartphone.

New Favorite for Mini Size Favored: HTC M4

Another device is HTC One “MINI”, codenamed M4, is expected to have a 4.3-inch display with metal-alloy body chassis and may hit markets by June. This device is said to be code-named HTC M4 and will have camera and speaker technology similar to that of the HTC One.

What do you think of these two devices? Are they the ones you might be up for checking out? We shall see in the near future.

  • 5 Best Android Smartphones to Get for 2013 Spring

Posted on May 3rd, 2013 David Brooks No comments

With the approaching of hot summer season, we have to say goodbye to spring. You may want to get a new smartphone to replace your old fashioned smartphone to welcome the new season. If so, this is the right place you should go. Some of the biggest phone manufacturers have just released their brand new 2013 flagship devices, just like Sony and Samsung, who recently released their widely welcomed smartphones, and it just so happens that all of them run on Android. As a tradition, Apple’s iPhone gets a refresh much later in the year, not in spring, and the same goes for Windows Phone. So, the only choice seems to be Android smartphones.

Now, the question goes to what kind of Android smartphones you should choose. Without comparison, it is really hard to pick out the answer, as so many Android smartphones are on the market for your option. To make it easy for you to pick up your device, we have listed our top five picks for new Android devices that are already available or coming in just a couple of days. Take a look at them below to decide which one you need.

    Your No. 1 choice – Samsung Galaxy S 4

    Samsung Galaxy S 4

Samsung didn’t exactly catch us by surprise with the Galaxy S4. However, it’s the flawless implementation of all the features that makes the Galaxy S4 the superb smartphone that it is. Design-wise, the latest Samsung flagship is nothing special. It looks OK and is comfortable to hold. We’re more than happy to see that Samsung has managed to make the smartphone even smaller than the GS III, which is a remarkable achievement, considering the bigger screen.

    No. 2 – HTC One

    HTC One

HTC wanted a comeback and it brought its best with the HTC One. It is a brilliant device in virtually every aspect. Coming with a beautiful aluminum body that fits almost organically in the hand, it has a great and vivid, extremely sharp 4.7-inch screen. The stereo front speaker bring a small revolution in smartphone sound that you’ll appreciate instantly when you hear it. Performance is flawless on the new Snapdragon 600 quad-core chip.

    No. 3 – Sony Xperia Z

    Sony Xperia Z

The Sony Xperia Z was the first 2013 flagship. It was the first of many more with a 5-inch 1080p display, but while we were disappointed with the quality of that screen, the device had one more ace up its sleeve – it was water and dust resistant. With the thought of summer, beaches and swimming, and the possibility to take the Xperia Z with you wherever you go (you can also shoot videos and images underwater), we are very tempted to get it. The handset also has a decent 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera that performs well in low light.

    No. 4 – Nexus 4

    Nexus 4

The Nexus 4 might have launched a few months ago but it only recently started shipping in volume on the Google Play store. Most importantly, though, it has remained extremely competitive in price. It’s a compact and practical decision. It has a 4.7-inch 720p screen and realistically looking it is almost impossible to justify a 1080p display on a phone, so that’s definitely not a flaw. What’s more the Nexus 4 is the first to get the latest Android updates, and the most affordable of all devices in this list.

    No. 5 – LG Optimus G Pro

    LG Optimus G Pro

The LG Optimus G Pro is a brilliantly timed device. Coming nearly half a year after the Note II, it manages to take advantage and stuff in an extremely crisp 1080p 5.5-inch screen that is very vivid and impressive. The G Pro is not for everyone, but for those who enjoy the big screens it would offer a flawless performance and a great camera. Phablet lovers, this should be your choice this spring.

  • HTC finally announced HTC One with 4.7-inch 1080p HD screen display and an ‘UltraPixel’ camera

Posted on February 20th, 2013 David Brooks No comments

After so many rumors, leaks and “reliable” reports, codenamed HTC M7, the HTC One has been finally announced by HTC on an event in New York City on Tuesday. Being the next flagship Android smartphone and the successor of HTC One X family, the HTC One sticks closely to the company’s tradition of wowing fans with lofty specs, but it also innovates dramatically in a couple of key areas. “We think it’s time to shake things up in the smartphone space,” Mike Woodward, President of HTC America, told ABC News in an interview about this new HTC One. “We have decided to come out and reinvent the smartphone.”

The 4.7-inch 1080P full HD LCD display with up to 468ppi would surely bring bright, crisp, and beautiful visual effect for users, just like any other wonderful smartphones in the marketplace. No matter what angle you look at it from, this smartphone would deliver you amazing images. Thus, if you want to watch HD movies on HTC One, full HD movie entertainment could be available.

    HTC One

HTC is betting big on the One’s camera capabilities, which revolve around a custom-developed imaging sensor with enlarged pixels that can absorb roughly three times more light than those inside a conventional 8-megapixel camera. These UltraPixels, as the company calls them, will make for a major leap in low-light performance, however they do limit the resolution of any photos you take with the HTC One to 4 megapixels.

Being a flagship, the HTC One will naturally come equipped with 4G connectivity, 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 SoC quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage as standard (a 64GB variant is planned for the APAC region), a 2300mAh battery, GPS and GLONASS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and even 802.11ac Wi-Fi. As for the software, the HTC One would come with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS and HTC’s Sense UI.

The HTC One will be available in a choice of silver or black starting in the latter half of March. HTC is aiming for a truly global release, having signed up a total of 185 carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in the US. Though it’s reported that the higher-capacity HTC One was planned for Asian markets only, AT&T now says it will offer both a 32GB and a 64GB model.
