Google updated Google+ iPhone app for iPad and iPod touch & iOS 5 devices
Posted on August 8th, 2011 No commentsAt the end of June, Google released the Google+ app for Android mobile phone. And on July 19th, Google+ app for iPhone came out for Apple iPhone users to experience Google+ social network with their iPhones. The support for only iPhone of Google+ iPhone app now ends with the fresh upgrade of Google+ iPhone app. On August 8th, Google+ updated its Google+ iOS app to version 1.0.2.1966 to support all Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and iOS 5 devices.
Google describes this update on Apple iTunes: Google+ for mobile makes sharing the right things with the right people a lot simpler. Huddle lets you send super-fast messages to the people you care about most. And no matter where you are, the stream lets you stay in the loop about what your friends are sharing and where they’re checking in.
What’s New in Version 1.0.2.1966
– Huddle settings
– Aggregated circle add notifications
– iPod touch & iPad support
– Performance and stability improvements
As the main rival to the social network giant Facebook, it could be said the Google+ owns more advantages than Facebook (not mean to the two social network giants, but refer to the development experience) as Google+ could learn experience and more things from the success of Facebook, just like the combination mobile phone apps with different mobile phones. Now, along with the support for almost all Apple devices, it is for sure that more Apple users would take a try of Google+ service. And as a user, we focus not who would win in the competition, but what would bring to us.
The Google+ iOS app is just updated. The performance of Google+ on iPad, iPod touch and iOS 5 still needs to be paid attention. Let’s just see what Google+ iOS app has brought to us.

Google news: Google quietly updated the Google Panda 2.3 to return high-quality sites to Google users
Posted on July 29th, 2011 No commentsIt has been confirmed from Search Engine Land that a Google spokesman confirmed that a small update to its Panda algorithm (Update 2.3) was made late last week. The 2.3 update makes use of new signals that are designed to help the portal further differentiate between low- and high-quality sources. This means businesses may see their websites rank higher or lower on Google, depending on the content published on their web pages.
The Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land that “We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.” “This update incorporates some new signals that help differentiate between higher- and lower-quality sites. As a result, some sites are ranking higher after this most recent update.this update incorporates some new signals that help differentiate between higher- and lower-quality sites. As a result, some sites are ranking higher after this most recent update,” the spokesperson added.
Panda as known to everyone, or almost everyone, is an algorithm which fights against a website’s duplicate content. Panda focuses on declining the rankings of those websites which have poor content on their websites which may be either copy content or low quality content. This can affect the ranking of even the high quality sites which may have poor content on their websites. Panda may be a new ranking factor but looking at it with an overall perspective, it is not actually a completely new algorithm for overall ranking which has come out of Google’s warehouse.
From the different durations the past few updates of the Google Panda Algorithm, Google still seems to be uncertain for a regular update plan for the this, yet upon manual update to adjust Google Panda Algorithm to provide Google users high-quality sites. Each time when Panda is updated, there’s a chance some hit from the last update will improve, while other sites might see traffic drops. In between updates, changes people may make specifically in hopes of fixing a Panda problem won’t show any impact until the next update is run.

Google released Google+ app for iPhone free download on Apple’s App Store
Posted on July 19th, 2011 No commentsTo any social networking platforms, mobile apps about social networking are quite important for expansion in the currently highly developed mobile phone market and highly spread use of mobile phones, which has been showed by Twitter and Facebook. As a fresh social network platform, introduced by the tech giant Google, Google+ is absolutely following the same developing mode. When it launched, Google had issued an Android app of Google+ for Android users to experience Google+ on their Android mobile phones. Yesterday, Google has launched an iOS app for Apple iPhone users to use its Google+ service, an important milestone for the fledgling social network to expand its social network influence and attract more users.
The iPhone version of Google+ keeps mostly the same as the Google+ in desktop web version. All main features are included like the Stream, Circles and Huddles. Of course, it also has its limitations, just like the unavailability of the group-video-chat Hangouts feature. The current version of the iPhone Google+ app is 1.0.1.1809 sized at 5.3MB, with the main features listed below:
– Better support for blocking unwanted messages in Huddle
– Better support for attaching photos to a post
– Various bug fixes and performance improvements
Currently, it is only compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 and requires iOS 4.0 or later, no iPad or iPod supported now. Now, this Google+ app for iPhone could be available to free download on Apple’s App Store.

Google+ vs. Facebook: A comparison between the two social network giants
Posted on July 5th, 2011 No commentsIn Google+, the search giant offers a serious competitor to Facebook. Here’s how the two social networks stack up.
By Jared Newman , PCWorld Jul 1, 2011 9:30 am
How Does Google+ Stack Up Against Facebook?
With Google+, the behemoth of Web search may have finally figured out social networking. Demand for Google+ invites is reportedly through the roof, and critics are generally pleased with how the service works.
But do we really need another social network? Can Google+ offer a service that Facebook does not? While you wait for the chance to see for yourself, take a look at this slideshow to learn how Facebook and Google+ compare.
Look and Feel: Google+
Facebook users should be quite comfortable with Google+, because the layout is nearly identical. Comment streams run down the center of the page, flanked by groups on the left and friend suggestions on the right. Chat windows appear in the bottom-right corner, just as on Facebook.
Look and Feel: Facebook
Yup, Google isn’t hiding its design inspirations, as UXBoy points out in a side-by-side comparison. Facebook has a few extra bells and whistles, though, in the form of events and games.
Creating Groups in Google+
A big draw of Google+ is the way it forces users to separate family, friends, and acquaintances into separate groups, called “circles.” Users can create their own custom circles and add people
Creating Groups in Facebook
Unlike Google+, Facebook is not designed around the group dynamic, but users can make public or private groups, with the option to allow all members to invite other people into the fold. It’s more of an optional feature–family members can have a little pow-wow, for instance–than a way of sifting out who sees what.
Profiles in Google+
I’m using the page for my colleague Daniel as an example here. You can see that Google+ profiles resemble a layout that Facebook previously used, separating status updates, information, and photos into separate tabs. One nice touch in Google+: When a user has multiple profile images, you can click the image to swap the thumbnail. (Try it on the page of Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior vice president of engineering.)
Profiles in Facebook
Facebook’s recently redesigned profile pages condense everything into a single view. Brief biographical tidbits and a strip of recent photos float above the user’s wall and recent activity. In a column to the left, Facebook still offers separate tabs for photos and other information.
Photos Compared
Photos on Google+ have a neat-looking staggered layout (but at least in my circle, there isn’t much to see right now). Facebook’s almighty album view makes for a superior friend-stalking environment. (I’ve blurred their faces for privacy here.)
Mobile Apps Compared
For now, the Google+ mobile app (left) is available only on Android, but it comes with a unique group-chat feature called Huddle. The Google+ iPhone Web app offers more-basic functions, including status updates, check-ins, and photo viewing. Facebook’s app has more features, including events and private chat, and it’s available on more platforms.
Bonus Google+ Feature: Hangouts
I haven’t spent much time with Hangouts, which allows as many as ten Google+ users to video-chat simultaneously, but it has lots of potential. The ability to watch YouTube videos live with friends, as shown here, could make for hilarious time-wasting.
Bonus Google+ Feature: Sparks
Can’t figure out what to do on Google+? A section of the site called “Sparks” serves up news articles based on your interests. The feature is kind of bland right now, as it lacks any sort of social interaction, but perhaps that will change.
Facebook’s Secret Weapon: Games
What Facebook lacks in simplicity, it makes up for with heaps of time-sucking diversions, such as FarmVille. There have been some indications that Google+ may become a gaming hub–the company has been looking for a gaming product manager–but for now Facebook dominates social games, which are a big reason that people spend so much time on the site. If Google decides to integrate Web-based apps, especially games, via its Chrome Web Store, Google+ would be able to compete more squarely with Facebook on the entertainment front.
