As one of the most important holidays, Easter is the central feast in the Christian liturgical year when Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. People typically celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday. This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 24.

    Happy Easter 2011

There are many ways for you to celebrate Easter Sunday, like playing Easter Eggs Game, Easter Bunny Games, making Easter gifts for your friends, etc. As well, watching Easter movies is another popular way to celebrate the holiday. And if you have children, Easter Sunday would be the right holiday for you to teach your children the true meaning of Easter Sunday by watching animated Easter movies. Here I have listed some most popular religious DVD movies for you to watch with your children and your family at home.

    1. The Greatest Adventures of the Bible: Easter Story (DVD)

The Greatest Adventure: Stories from the Bible is a direct-to-video series produced by Hanna-Barbera that tells of three young adventurers—Derek, Margo, and ‘their nomad friend’ Moki—who travel back in time to watch biblical events take place first-hand. It presents animated, family-oriented tales from the Bible, with this installment covering the story of Easter.

    2. The Greatest Story Ever Told (DVD)

The Greatest Story Ever Told is a 1965 American epic film produced and directed by George Stevens and distributed by United Artists. It is a retelling of the story of Jesus Christ, from the Nativity through the Resurrection. This film is notable for being the last film appearance of Claude Rains.

    3. The Gospel of John

The Gospel According to John, commonly referred to as the Gospel of John or simply John, is an account of the public ministry of Jesus. It begins with the witness and affirmation by John the Baptist and concludes with the death, burial, Resurrection, and post-Resurrection appearances of Jesus. This account is fourth of the canonical gospels, after the synoptics Matthew, Mark and Luke.

    4. The Passion of the Christ

The Passion of the Christ largely covers the final twelve hours of Jesus’ life beginning with the Agony in the Garden and ending with a brief depiction of his Resurrection. Flashbacks of Jesus as a Child, when Jesus worked as a carpenter, the Sermon on the Mount, the saving of Mary Magdalene from being stoned to death, and the Last Supper are also included.

    5. Easter Promise/The Witness (DVD) (1996)

Easter Promise: Jerem dreams of being a soldier for a king. He is thrilled to hear about the upcoming arrival of the true King Jesus, but he is deceived and rejects Jesus along with many others. Jerem learns about the truth and ultimately trusts in Jesus and is able to witness the fulfillment of prophecy — the resurrection. Witness: Barabbas doubts Jesus Christ’s divinity, but he is soon unable to deny that Jesus was no ordinary man.

    6. The Ten Commandments – 50th Anniversary Collection (DVD) (1923/1956)

The Ten Commandments is a 1956 American epic film that dramatized the biblical story of Exodus, in which the Jewish-born Moses, an adopted Egyptian prince, turned deliverer of the Hebrew slaves. While not directly about Easter, this movie is appropriate for the time of year because of Passover. This classic rendition of The Ten Commandments tells the story of Moses and his people.
