Spotlight on TED 2009 Prize: Join SETI to Search for Aliens by Jill Tarter
Posted on September 1st, 2009 11,179 views | 3 commentsPeople may know UFOs, little green men by TV news reports and Hollywood movies, but they seldom hear about SETI. That’s why Jill Tarter explains SETI for the worldwide audience and whole-heartedly wishes us to join together to help forward this incredible search-for-alien project.
Are we alone? Jill Tarter starts by proposing this question we have been asking for thousands of years. With this question, human has been driven by curiosity to extend its ability to explore the environment around the continent, the earth and even the universe. Facing the seemingly boundless star ocean, human is again stopped by this question. But human’s aspiration is not extinguished by his tiny existence but is even fierier. All the forces possible will be mobilized eventually in the search for the answer. Now SETI is the prototype, an attempt to reach deeper in the universe.

Human are looking at billions of billions stars in the sky.Are aliens looking at us from there as well?

SETI, namely Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence, is a colossal project ever devised by mankind which is particularly committed to searching for our neighborhood in the universe. However, only the support from the government and science research institution is far from enough to fulfill the huge computing demand on the data collected from observing the space. The computation has to be distributed. People all over the world who have personal computers are qualified to be part of the project. By installing a program named SETI@Home, people can help analyzing segments of the data while their computers are idle. It is a very interesting experience that everyone can become a grain of sand on a sea beach, and it can be simply done by anyone.
By holding faith in endeavors, neither believing we are alone or not, we will find the answer some time in the future. Thanks to honorable pioneers like Jill Tarter. By joining SETI project, we are bringing the globe together to search for the answer again.Use Leawo Video Converter to deliver this talk show in all kinds of video formats to inspire more people to join in this great project.
